| You've probably wondered how
these three divisions of Powderhorn became to be...they seem so
different from one another. Here's how the story goes...
The heart of the business, Birth Gifts by Birth
Rite™ is the printing of
baby bibs. Our business was founded in 1979, to provide
maternity units a way to market their hospitals. We have
always believed that baby bibs are the ultimate outer garment.
So, we found a way to produce a vinyl-backed terry fabric, which
could be screen printed with the hospital's name. We
developed a number of designs and were on our way. Of
course, since that time, we have added other products like
Changing Pads, Bubble Pads, T-Shirts, Caps, Blankets and a Tote for Mom.
Not long after the baby bibs were being
produced, a relative (who happened to be a Nursing Home
Administrator) dumped a bunch of ratty-looking adult bibs on our
desk and said, "You make good baby bibs. How about
designing a good looking, long lasting, adult bib, so our CNA's
don't have to waste valuable time changing residents' clothing
after meals?" So, now you have the connection between the
baby bibs and the adult bibs. Since then, our line of
longterm-care products included vinyl holsters for bedpans and
repositioning pads. Nearly all of our products in this
line are a result of providing unique solutions to problems that
no one else has developed.
Later, we were approached by our local Library
that wanted tote bags similar to our Tote for Mom in the Birth
Rite products. After some thought and thorough testing, we
came up with a tote bag that was a little bit larger, with
increased durability and hence...the Library Book Bag was born.
Again, we weren't satisfied to produce only one tote bag, so we
added the Tom Thumb Tote, the Promotional Tote and the Shoulder
Tote. Another tote bag added (long before its time) was
the Shopping Tote, which is getting much more attention in
today's market with the public's sensitivity to Re-Duce, Re-Use
and Re-Cycle.
Through all of these years, our business
belief has been to make each of our products "USA Made".
Of course, things change over time, and not all products are
available in the US any more. However, we do go to great
lengths to obtain products and raw materials that are as close
to "USA Made" as possible.
In our little facility nestled in the Rocky
Mountains, we cut the fabrics to
order, screen print and sew them, too! (Except for the
T-shirts, Blankets, Caps and
One Pieces for the Birth Rite
line.) |
